Fruit Inpection

Galatians 5:22–23

Scripture: “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control.” — Galatians 5:22–23

Most of us understand fruit trees well enough to know one simple truth: healthy trees produce fruit.

An apple tree does not strain to produce apples. A peach tree does not spend its energy trying to convince everyone it is healthy. The fruit simply reveals what is happening inside the tree.

The same is true in the Christian life.

When Paul describes the fruit of the Spirit, he is not giving believers a checklist to complete. He is describing the evidence of a life being shaped by God’s presence. Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control are not decorations we hang on our lives. They are the natural result of the Holy Spirit at work within us.

That can be both encouraging and challenging.

It is encouraging because spiritual growth is not about trying harder. It is about staying connected to Christ. As we worship, pray, study Scripture, and walk in obedience, God continues His work within us.

It is challenging because fruit tells the truth. When impatience, anger, bitterness, or selfishness consistently show up in our lives, the issue may not be the fruit itself. The issue may be something deeper in the roots.

Jesus said that a tree is known by its fruit. Fruit does not create life. Fruit reveals life.

The good news is that God is patient with His people. Fruit rarely appears overnight. Growth takes time. Season by season, the Holy Spirit continues His work, producing within us what we could never manufacture on our own.

An Invitation

Take a moment today to consider the fruit growing in your life. Where do you see evidence of God’s Spirit at work? Where might God be inviting you to grow?

Don’t become discouraged by what is still developing.

Stay rooted in Christ.

The fruit will come.
